What is Evince?
Evince is a software for visualizing important information hidden in large amounts of data. It uses something called multivariate data analysis for extracting the information.
What kinds of data can you analyze with Evince?
The user can analyze about any kind of data in Evince, provided it consists of a number of samples or observations, each with measured or assessed variables. Data generated from various instruments is a typical kind of data that could be analyzed with Evince.
What file formats are supported in Evince?
The most common files formats supported by Evince are ascii (text) files, Excel files and Matlab files.
How does the multivariate data analysis in Evince work?
The algorithms in Evince calculates something called components, which summarizes important variation found in the analyzed data. Instead of taking all variables in the data into account, the user just has to look at the calculated components. This makes it much easier to get an overview of the data and to understand features hidden in it.
What is a multivariate model and what can it be used for?
A multivariate model is the result of a performed multivariate data analysis. Its main content is the calculated components. These can be used for creating visualizations, which show features of the data.
What types of models can you use in Evince?
The user can calculate Principal Component Analysis (PCA) models, Partial Least Squares (PLS) models, Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) models and SIMCA models.
What are the most commonly used visualizations?
The most commonly used visualizations are the score plot, which shows differences between samples/observations, and the loading plot, which shows differences between variables.
What computer do I need for running Evince?
See system requirements.
Can I change the layout of the legend and graph?
Yes, you can use the layout button (Plot Layout) in the plot menu to resize and move legends, graph, title and other windowed items in your plot.
